When Is Enough, Enough?

When is enough, enough?

.
We used to have something in America called civility. A time when we agreed to disagree and still broke bread with each other.

Today, many seek to point out our differences and use those to ridicule, shame and control.

We lash out on social media, saying things that most would not have the backbone or guts to say in person.

Many who act in these uncivil manners are just angry people. Angry at their spouse, their boss, their kids, and most of the time, angry at themselves.

When is enough, enough? When are we going to get tired of it? When will this madness stop?

Unfortunately, I don’t think it will….at least not in the way the world views it.

Being a person of faith, I stand on the words found in 1 Peter 3:8-9 which tells me to be of one mind with others. Sympathizing with them, loving them, being tender hearted and having a humble attitude.

I know, this isn’t popular in the world to take this stance but, since I believe what I believe, I know that this isn’t my home.

What I find extremely interesting is that even outside of Christianity, religions and society all have a take on the golden rule. You know, treat others the way you want to be treated.

With that being said, I have yet to find a religion or sect of society that wants to be treated with the nastiness that we spew. In fact many call foul, discrimination, and racial bias when they are.

We truly need to go back to block parties, getting to know our neighbors, turning off the television, and back to civility. We don’t have to agree, in fact many won’t but we should be able to freely express our opinions and view points to each other without fear.
